G1 MLP newborn babies are seeking new homes

Upon opening the drawer, the newborns and newborn twins mostly stared upward in wide-eyed wonder at their beholder. They are such a joy to look at and so cute too! We wish for them to find good loving homes, perhaps by this Christmas and let them bring happiness to their new adoptive moms and dads.

They had lived many memorable years together with one another in this drawer and now the time has come for them to part. Maybe as they travel across the different parts of the earth to their new destinations, some of them might one day be reunited with one another, or even with their childhood owners!

If they could talk, they would probably gibber non-stop amongst themselves in their 'baby languages'. They always seem to be 'yakking' continously with one another, rolling on the floor over their fat chubby legs, picking themselves up again and then deliberately repeating the roll-over process. How else would they pass their time? They are too young to speak, let alone attend school.

Right now, they are being 'conditioned' to being confined in padded envelopes or parcels so as to prepare them for travelling. They should re-acclimatize easily to the temperate climate, where they originally were mostly from, and where most prospective adoptive parents live. Although they had already gotten used to living in equatorial Singapore (which is hot, humid & rainy all year round), they should welcome having fun in real snow during Christmas. Hopefully they shall all have this opportunity to celebrate this Christmas in a real winter season, instead of the make-believe one here in Singapore :-)

Transformers mini figures are in Singapore!

Front view

It was a delightful surprise to find this box set of Transformers mini figures over the weekend in Singapore. They are supposedly exclusive to the TRU here. There was even a special signage put up near the toys saying "no traders allowed, each customer is limited to 2 boxes only".

These mini figures also came out in the stores as single packs in Singapore in June/July 2007 to coincide with the much hyped-up Transformers movie. We heard that the toys were initially ignored in the first few weeks of being in the stores but when the movie came out in July, local collectors and speculative toy traders rushed to wipe out almost every main character off the racks and shelves. The poor kids in Singapore hardly get to lay their hands on the main cartoon or movie heroes whose toylines happen to be coveted by the toys collectors here. It has been like this for around the past 10 years.

Back view

Since July 2007, the most popular Transformers toys to appear in the weekly second hand toy market here have been the deluxe versions of Bumblebee, Barricade, Razz, Optimus Prime, Blackout, plus the exclusive giant Bumblebee figure. These movie figures have in fact flooded the sub-sale toy market here. Bumblebee is the most popular and sought after figure. It is easily priced at twice its retail value and more, though it is not known how many transactions went through at those exorbitant prices.

The local TRU limited the purchase of the giant Bumblebee figure to only 1 per TRU member before releasing the whatever remaining stocks to the non-members. The malls here must had figured that Transformers toys are 'cash cows' so they put up signs to state that these toys are not on discount, even if there is a storewide sale going on.

The mini figures were not that sought after compared to their deluxe counterparts. Nonetheless, it was impossible to spot a mini Bumblebee figure in any store! This box set of 6 mini figures is slightly much more expensive to purchase than individually. However considering the price of acquiring mini Bumblebee from the local second market, it all adds up to be around the same.

Today, only mini Megatron and mini Starscream can still be found in the local stores. Megatron especially is practically everywhere and no one wants him!

Looking at all the mini figures in the series, mini Barricade is the most attractive in both vehicle and robot form. Mini Bumblebee has 2 odd 'projections' near the front doors, spoiling the look of its vehicle form!

Collecting the Transformers mini figures takes up much lesser precious shelf space in a collector's home. The mini fugures may not be as detailed as their deluxe counterparts but they are cheaper and much easier to 'transform', minimising the risk of accidentally breaking the parts. The mini figures also display very well next to Matchbox and Takara-sized toy cars.

Hence Kudos to the creators for doing their best to replicate the transforming process and modes of the deluxe versions on the mini ones, and for making these toys more affordable to kids and collectors!

Ratings for Transformers mini figures - 3.5 out of 5 stars!

Another new batch of re-released G3 ponies

We wonder when will Hasbro not keep re-releasing repeat G3 MLP characters. It makes collectors excited for a while, only to be disappointed that they are repeat characters. However, it is good for collectors who missed out on the earlier versions of certain pony characters or earlier versions that were not made in preferred poses.

http://www.mlparena.com/Forums/viewtopic/t=132380.html

Nonetheless, the pony toys are ultimately targeted at little kids generally aged 7 and below, and they are not as particular about the poses.

Now that we expect most pony characters to be re-released in other poses, collectors can get to choose their most preferred poses for the pony characters. This is great for those with a tighter budget and lesser shelf space at home.

Of course nothing beats having totally new characters with every new set released. It'll be terrific if ponies like Cheerilee, Lily Lightly, Sweetie Belle and Starsong would be released in normal pony versions soon!

Starsong the first Ponyville pegasus pony!

This little pony is a wonderful addition to the Ponyville family. It's now on sale in the departmental stores in Singapore. Better grab her before she flies off the shelves like the Starcatcher (II) here in Singapore!

MLP Dream Castle TV Commercial from the 80's

This link was picked up from My Little Pony Arena (MLP Arena)!

The commercial was not shown on tv here in Singapore during the 80's and this playset wasn't sold here then. The G1 ponies look very appealing in it, even though the ponies featured were not in the best pony poses ever made.

Nevertheless, thanks to the rise of YouTube, now we can easily share such lovely videos that evoke so much childhood memories in many MLP collectors all over the world!

Star Catcher (II) Review

Star Catcher (II)

The newest line of My Little Pony (MLP) toys are here in Singapore - namely the 2nd set of scented ponies and well as the set of 4 ponies containing the long awaited normal sized Star Catcher!
Star Catcher (I) on the right

The first edition of Star Catcher or Star Catcher (I) did not come to Singapore, only the large color change and styling version did. Interestingly, the cartoon DVD featuring her was distributed by the departmental stores in Singapore for a limited period a few years back with each pony purchase. Star Catcher must surely be adored and coverted by many kids here.

When the pink pegasus Hidden Treasure was sold at the local TRU 2 years ago, she sold out pretty fast, considering that she did not even appear in her accompanying DVD. Maybe the kids want her in place of Star Catcher.
Her lovely backcard drawing!

Of the recent newest batch of MLPs to hit the local stores, Star Catcher (II) is the most striking and most attractive in her very white body and contrasting hair colors. Her drawing behind her box is truly gorgeous and she also has no tinsels in her hair! One thing to note though is that her head is made of a different material from her body. A Star Catcher (II) at a store was also spotted with a slight yellowed head. Hence there is a possibility that her head might discolor in the future, depending on climate and storage conditions.

Just like sisters!

As she lacks the extra 3-D designs on her forehead and legs of her predeccessor, Star Catcher (II) looks like the daughter, younger sister or less evolved version of Star Catcher (I). With her larger wings and being the first G3 pegasus, Star Catcher (I) defintely looks to be the leader or queen of the G3 Pegasus ponies, rather than Star Catcher (II).

Nonetheless, Star Catcher (II) makes a great addition to any MLP collection and she looks fantastic on her own. She is also more available to fans and collectors who missed out on Star Catcher (I). So go grab your Star Catchers (II) now before stocks run out. Her value might increase with time too, since many fans and collectors already desire her way before she came out in the stores.

Star Catcher (II) is now on sale at http://www.toyztosell.com/ !
